What happens at Camp Camino?

It was another exciting week here at Camino Farms.

Before jumping into our programming, I wanted to say thank you for the resounding response to last week’s newsletter.

(If you’ve joined us in the past week, you can read the last edition here.)

We appreciated all the positive replies, everyone who forwarded the newsletter, and those who reached out about our open administrative assistant role.

To add to the excitement, it was a joy hosting some of you on campus tours this week as well!

This week, we’re sharing:

  • Our programming with the Ed Snider Youth Hockey & Education
  • What a camp day looks like at Camp Camino
  • Another video from last week

And a reminder on ways to get involved.

This Week: Ed Snider Youth Hockey and Education

We hosted another mission-driven organization this week: Ed Snider Youth Hockey and Education.

It was a cool way of partnering with an organization that focuses on serving kids through ice hockey, but works with us to add to their weekly experience.

For the first half of the day, the girls went to a local ice rink while the boys stayed on campus for some of our programming.

The second half of the day they flip-flopped.

But everyone got to enjoy some pool time before dinner!

You can see the video of their week below.

A Typical Day at Camp Camino

When an organization comes up for camp, we usually handle all of the programming.

We split the organizations into smaller groups before they get their weekly agenda.

Each day consists of various activities falling under our S.A.L.T. acronym: Sports, Activities, Life on the Farm, and Teamwork.

Sports

Pickleball is a fan favorite right now.

But other sports have consisted of:

  • Soccer
  • Kickball
  • Spikeball
  • Volleyball
  • & indoor basketball

With Ultimate Frisbee being a big one for the Snider Hockey crew.

Activities

Arts and crafts is a big one at Camino. Music as well.

But we also switch things up every now and again.

With our campers this week, we made “Move In” a Day 1 activity to make things more enjoyable.

Life on the Farm

This one is always evolving.

The premise here is teaching campers to slow down, enjoy the present, use their hands, get off technology, and actually be active in caring for God's creation.

Life on the farm includes:

  • Gardening
  • Animal-assisted therapy barn
  • Wednesday hayride for a tour with our farm manager, Baylor

And sometimes we slow things down with Yoga or "Stretch & Connect”as well.

Teamwork

This may vary based on the counselor.

But we like to come up with different ways to show the campers the value of working together.

Last week’s group, Calvary Baptist, did the human knot, where they tried to untangle their arms without letting go of each other’s hands!

You can check it out (along with the rest of their week) in our LinkedIn post from last week.

(We’d love for you to follow along with us there as well.)

Volunteer and Job Opportunities

We're hiring!

Thank you to everyone who reached out about the Administrative Assistant role to join our team.

We look forward to speaking with you about the position.

If you are interested but have not reached out, please do so this week.

This full-time role is perfect for someone who is:

  • Highly organized and detail-oriented
  • Friendly, professional, and service-minded
  • Excited to be a welcoming first point of contact for our guests, volunteers, donors, and partners

We would like to get this position filled by someone in our community!

Calling All Nurses!

We are still looking for volunteer nurses to support our Camino Belong and Camino Works! weeks.

  • July 27–31
  • August 3–7

If you know anyone who might be interested, please forward them this link. Thank you!

Closing Thoughts

Since opening in May, we've had the privilege of welcoming hundreds of campers, retreat participants, volunteers, and staff to campus.

Launching a brand-new camp and retreat center has come with plenty of challenges, long days, and countless lessons.

But seeing campers laughing in the pool, gathered around campfires, and simply enjoying being kids makes every bit of the work worthwhile.

Each week looks a little different, but the mission remains the same: creating a place where people experience belonging, build meaningful relationships, and leave renewed.

On to our first week of Camino Signature Programs… WildFlower Rising!

See you next week,

When I sit down to write the newsletter, I always like to highlight what’s happening at Camino throughout the week. Last night, we welcomed a group of Pope John Paul II High School students for their senior year Kairos Retreat. They will be with us until Monday. I will share more about their experience next week. The rest of the week has been spent in preparation for Fall Fest and our upcoming Women’s Wellness Weekend. I have a couple of exciting updates to share with you for each of those....

With fall almost here, there is a lot happening at Camino! We’ve recently started a campus upgrade. There are multiple groups joining us for retreat in the coming weeks. We just hosted a women’s retreat on Wednesday, and we’re already planning a women’s wellness weekend for next month. We’re also hosting a Fall Fest for the IDD community, and we’re planning an open house for everyone to come up to see the campus in the midst of fall! With so much to cover, let’s dive right in! Women’s Retreat...

Today, we pause to remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and to honor the courage of the first responders, service members, and countless individuals who stepped forward in the days that followed. We pray that God continues to guide us in building a world rooted in peace, compassion, and unity. When my parents started Camino, there were no plans for a farm. Their original intentions were just to build a camp and retreat center. But with construction delayed for various reasons, the...
